19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to get a title is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first tour title, gained dominance to create a decider.

The opponent saved 4 early opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
